$5 Dance Lessons Available One Hour Before Event Begins

MELBOURNE, FL, December 20, 2017 – Romance will take center stage as Swingtime presents its annual Sweetheart’s Ball dance on Friday, January 26, 2018, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Melbourne Auditorium, 625 Hibiscus Blvd. Dance tickets are $7 in advance at various outlets, or $10 at the door or online.

Conductor Art Martin will lead the band in a variety of much-loved arrangements from masters such as Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie and Les Brown, and some Frank Sinatra songs. Popular vocalist Len Fallen will perform.

“This has been a hugely popular event for years, and we encourage everyone to get their tickets or reserve group tables early,” said Art Martin, Swingtime conductor. “You don’t have be a dancer to join us, you can come just to enjoy the live music and have a fun evening with friends.”

The event is BYOB and the auditorium will have a concession area with hot dogs, hamburgers, snacks, soft drinks, bottled water and ice for sale. Tables can be reserved in advance for eight or more people by calling MMB Auxiliary President Marci Hutson at 321-339-7705.

Advance tickets may be purchased in Melbourne at WMMB Radio and Genesis House Boutique, at Marion Music in Palm Bay, Brass and Reed Music Center in Merritt Island, Guitar Haven in Indian Harbour Beach, Art Gallery of Viera, and Ocean Sports World in Cocoa Beach.

Those who would like to brush up on their dancing skills can do so from 6 to 7 p.m., when Laura Beers offers lessons (www.adancersvoice.com or 751-4766). The fee for lessons is $5, payable to the instructor.

Swingtime is the 22-piece Big Band ensemble of the Melbourne Municipal Band, playing music from the 1920s to the 1970s. The for-hire band features saxophones, trombones, trumpets, a piano, guitar, bass and trap set, along with two vocalists and a conductor/announcer. Swingtime Lite is a smaller version of the full band.
