Clarinetics to Play “Music from Around the World” at January 4 Concert
1st Jan 2019 Clarinetics to Play “Music from Around the World” at January 4 Concert
MELBOURNE, FL, December 17, 2018 – The Clarinetics, an ensemble of the Melbourne Municipal Band (MMB), will perform in concert on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at 7:30 p.m. at the Highland Avenue Fellowship Church, 1591 Highland Ave, Melbourne, FL. The concert, “Music from Around the World,” is free. A donation is suggested.
The ensemble consists of five professional clarinetists. They will play music from all over the world, including selections from England, Russia, Austria, Germany, Spain, Mexico and Argentina. Most of it has been arranged from classical, popular and jazz music.
Special guest, Frank Tuckwiller, will perform the dramatic Canzonetta from the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto on the alto saxophone.
“You won’t want to miss the chance to hear the Clarinetics,” said Ann Satterfield, who leads the ensemble and performs with Swingtime and the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra. “We are one of the newer offshoots of the MMB and will be showing just how versatile the clarinet is in playing different styles of music.”
In addition to Satterfield, the ensemble’s musicians include: Al and Jo-An Smukala, who play in the Melbourne Municipal Band and were founding members of the New York Wind Symphony; Dr. Charles Boyer, who was a solo instrumentalist in the U.S. Army Band and Chamber Orchestra in Washington DC, and plays with MMB and in the Henegar pit orchestra; and Ron Jewell, who has played with the Air Force and National Guard Bands, Central Florida Winds, and the Brevard and Space Coast Symphony Orchestras.
