MELBOURNE, Fla., March 13, 2019 – The Melbourne Municipal Band (MMB) will celebrate Earth Day through music, with a program inspired by Louis Armstrong’s classic tune, What a Wonderful World. The concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. April 10 and 11 at the Melbourne Auditorium, 625 E. Hibiscus Blvd. There is no charge and tickets are not required. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

“We will dedicate this concert to the wonderful world we live in, with music like Festive Overture, by Shostakovich, and Outdoor Overture,” said Conductor Staci Rosbury. “Dave Ewing, the Principal Trumpet, will be featured as a soloist in our Brevard’s Brightest Stars segment, and some of our amazing clarinet players will be featured in an exciting work by Paganini.”

Pre-show entertainment will be provided by the “Oh Golly Dixieland Band,” which plays Dixieland music at its best and features the trumpet, trombone, clarinet, tuba, piano, banjo, drums and a vocalist.

The mission of the Melbourne Municipal Band (MMB), established in 1965, is to bring free concerts to area residents and visitors, to promote music appreciation and education – particularly among young people – and to provide members of the band with an avenue for music performance and development. One-third of the band`s 80-plus members are professional musicians. In a typical year, the band serves 20,000 attendees, and its members give 27,000 hours of community service in the form of rehearsals and performance time.
