Swingtime will shine the spotlight on spring as it presents its annual “Spring Fling Dance” on Friday, March 31, 2017, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Melbourne Auditorium, 625 Hibiscus Blvd. Dance tickets are $7 in advance at various outlets, or $10 at the door or online.
Conductor Art Martin will lead the band in a variety of much-loved dance arrangements from masters such as Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie and Les Brown, and some Frank Sinatra songs. Popular local vocalist Len Fallen will perform.
“It’s time to shake off any remaining winter doldrums and get ready for a fun evening of dancing and spending time with friends,” said Art Martin, Swingtime conductor. “I also want to remind everyone that even though this is a dance, we welcome all who just want to enjoy the live music and have a great evening.”
The event is BYOB and the band auxiliary will have a concession table with snacks, soft drinks, bottled water and ice for sale. Tables can be reserved in advance for eight or more people by calling MMB Auxiliary President Marci Hutson at 321-339-7705.
Advance tickets may be purchased in Melbourne at WMMB Radio and the Liberty Bell Memorial Museum, at Marion Music in Palm Bay, Brass and Reed Music Center in Merritt Island, Guitar Haven in Indian Harbour Beach, Art Gallery of Viera, in Viera, and Ocean Sports World in Cocoa Beach.
Those who would like to brush up on their dancing skills can do so from 6 to 7 p.m., when Laura Beers offers lessons (www.adancersvoice.com
or 751-4766). The fee for lessons is $5, payable to the instructor.
