Two of Melbourne Municipal Band’s Small Ensembles Come Together for a Salute to the 1950s
27th Apr 2017 Two of Melbourne Municipal Band’s Small Ensembles Come Together for a Salute to the 1950s
Two of MMB’s small ensembles, Swingtime Lite and the Swingtimers Vocal Trio, performed an All 50s Revue at a private function April 27th. The host of the event wanted all 50s music to go along with the 50s theme of their event. Art Martin, Director of Swingtime Lite, and Dave Hutson, Director of the Swingtimers Vocal Trio, collaborated on the performance that featured Len Fallen backed by the Swingtimers as well as the Swingtimers alone in classic 50s hits, Don’t Be Cruel, Stagger Lee, My Special Angel, and The Great Pretender. Swingtime Lite rounded out the evening with instrumental hits, Rock Around the Clock, and Great Balls of Fire.

This is the first time that two small MMB ensembles have collaborated on a performance and the audience was thrilled. Or in the jargon of the time, the audience thought, “The gig was really the coolest, man”. The two groups will reprise their performance at the MMB pre-show on September 20 and 21.
